Abstract
The scope of this paper is to revisit the attestations of the theme of the Descensus ad Inferos in some Gnostic sources, direct or indirect, (among them, Trimorphic Protennoia [NHC XIII,1], Teachings of Silvanus [NHC VII,4] and Irenaeus’ Adversus Haereses), in order to evaluate their relationship to the “classical” witnesses of the Descensus, including the so-called Gospel of Nicodemus (or Acta Pilati).
