Abstract

Southeastern Anatolian Project, GAP, is one of the biggest of its kind in the world for dimensions, scales and aims. It has a surface of 75.358 km2. GAP aims at benefiting from natural resources such as soil and water at an optimum rate. It has 7 subprojects on the Euphrates basin, and 6 on the Tigris basin, and it is composed of 22 dams, 19 of which have two functions (power generation and irrigation), 19 hydro-electric power plants and irrigation system connected to them. GAP Master Plan focuses on solving the problems such as industrialization, enhancing the education level, investments in large scales and accommodation.
