Abstract

Psychogenic polydipsia is a rare condition characterized by excessive water drinking without any psyhiologic stimulant. In these patients excessive fluid intake is well tolerated without hiponatremia. The most useful test for diagnosis of psychogenic polydipsia is water deprivation test. Treatment is depend on etiology and severity of condition. Water restriction and patient education may be effective in treating mild cases. In this case report, we presented a 20-year-old woman who has psychogenic polydipsia. We emphasised on differantial diagnosis of psychogenic polydipsia

Introduction

Psychogenic polydipsia is a rare condition characterized by excessive water drinking without any psyhiologic stimulant. Kompülsif su içme veya psikojenik polidipsi, susama duymaksızın sürekli veya alışkanlık haline gelen normalden fazla su içme ile karakterize psikiyatrik bir tablodur [1]. Kompülsif su içme bazı psikiyatrik bozukluklarda özellikle de şizofrenide iyi tanımlanmıştır. Bu yazıda herhangi bir tıbbi hastalığı, madde kullanım öyküsü ve bilinen psikiyatrik hastalığı olmayan günlük ortalama 12 litre su içen 20 yaşında kadın psikojenik polidipsi olgusu sunulmuştur.
