Abstract

Abstract A new species of Gnaphalium section Euchiton is described from New Zealand. G. laterale C. Webb is a perennial stoloniferous herb with solitary capitula borne on lateral flowering stems. It is most similar to G. paludosum and G. polylepis but is distinguished by its hairier leaves and larger capitula. G. laterale occurs in the southern North Island and the South Island in montane to alpine wet places. Some Australian plants should possibly be referred to this species.
