Abstract

The glycosidically bound volatile compounds from fresh leaves of Cupressus arizonica Greene var. glauca Woodal, Cupressaceae, were analysed by GC–MS in the form of their aglycones. After enzymatic hydrolysis, 12 aglycones were identified. The liberated volatiles amounted to 75 mg/kg of plant material. The main aglycone was 3-phenylprop-2-en-1-ol. Subsequent acidic hydrolysis additionally liberated an amount of aglycones, about 8 mg/kg of plant material. There was almost no similarity between the glycosidically bound volatile compounds and the compounds present in the essential oil. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
