Abstract

A study of the serum proteins of the gravid female is reported. A comparative study of the protein-bound hexose content of maternal serum in reference to newborn and nongravid females was carried out. A mild elevation of the glycoprotein content of maternal serum when expressed in terms of grams of protein-bound hexose per 100 Gm. of serum protein was found. It is proposed that the gravid female serves as an experimental model to evaluate the effect of an active anabolic state on the synthesis of glycoproteins.
