Abstract

Total and trichloroacetic acid extractable glycogen, total and acid soluble phosphorus were determined in two types of skeletal muscle of the lizard, Anolis cristatellus. Glycogen was assayed by the anthrone method and phosphorus by a modification of the Fiske and SubbaRow method. The total and trichloroacetic acid soluble glycogen was found to be higher in concentration in mixed muscles than in agranular ones, and the difference is statistically significant. The concentration of total and acid soluble phosphorus was also found to be higher in mixed muscles than in agranular ones, but the differences are not statistically significant. Whether the difference in the glycogen concentration between the two types of muscle is related to functional differences is still unknown.
