Abstract

Although the process has many complications, the use of noble metals (Au, Pt, Pd) in alkaline medium has attracted an enormous interest to obtain high-value added compounds from glycerol oxidation. When using Boron-Doped Diamond (BDD) as anode, some difficulties of the process are minimized and the oxidation of the alcohol is biased to glyceraldehyde (GA), glyceric acid (GLYA), oxalic acid (OXA), glycolic acid (GLYCA), lactic acid (LACA), acetic acid (ACA), and formic acid (FA). Here, the obtained compounds where analyzed by using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and the standards of each one. Then, we constructed the graphics where it’s possible to see the chemical evolution of the aldehydes and carboxylic acids under different electroanalysis conditions. Using a current density of 10 mA cm-2, the glycerol oxidation is almost completed and mostly turn into FA.
