Abstract

Background: Glucose Transporter 1 (GLUT-1) is a high affinity glucose transporter. Increased glucose uptake at cell membranes is a metabolic characteristic of tumour cells. GLUT-1 at the membrane represents the active form of the protein in cancers. Elevated levels of GLUT-1 have been reported in many human malignancies however the correlation between levels in contiguous and non-contiguous adenomas in colorectal cancer has not yet been elucidated.
