Abstract

1. 1. A small population of Trigona fuscobalteata from Peninsular Malaysia was analysed for genetic variation at six gene-enzyme systems. 2. 2. Three gene-enzyme systems (glucose phosphate isomerase, malate dehydrogenase and isocitrate dehydrogenase) were polymorphic in the six colonies studied. 3. 3. The distribution of GPI homozygous and heterozygous phenotypes in the polymorphic colony differed significantly from Mendellian expectations. 4. 4. The results indicate that the level of enzyme polymorphisms in advanced eusocial bees may have been underestimated.
