Abstract

Vacancy-rich ZnO sheets with (1 0 0) facet were synthesized by the glucose-assisted calcination method. By introducing glucose to control the atmosphere, oriented growth of ZnO with oxygen vacancy was realized. Experimental results showed that the glucose-assisted calcination provided oxygen-poor environment for the formation of oxygen vacancy and promoted the transformation of ZnO from rods to sheets. ZnO sheets exhibited a high photocatalytic activity and regeneration ability. After 60 min of irradiation, methyl orange was completely decolorized and the degradation rate was still at 96 % after four-cycle experiments. The synergistic effect of oxygen vacancy and non-polar (1 0 0) facet improved the photocatalytic property of ZnO.
