Abstract

While constructivist arguments have been extensively applied to issues of national security policy and military-security issues, there has been little effort to consider constructivist contributions to understanding US foreign economic policy. This article examines US developing country debt policy in an era of globalization. In evaluating the limitations of the dominant perspectives — neoliberal institutionalism and new statism — a constructivist-inspired explanation of US policy is offered.
