Abstract

In the third millennium, the rebalancing between the West and the East has been evolving steadily. Not only demographically but also in terms of gross national product, foreign trade and weapons accumulation, Asia’s stride has been phenomenal. Underlying these changes are technological advances in the communications and manufacturing industries. This review article summarizes and reflects on some of the latest books in Asian political economy and argues for the need to probe more microscopically into the Asian domestic political economy from a comparative perspective.
