Abstract

This discussion of the global women's movement begins with some reflections on its evolution in recent history, the political gains that have been achieved by the movement, and the sites that have emerged as points of tension among the movement's diverse membership. Next it considers the interplay between the global and local realms of women's organizing and connections between activity occurring within the global women's movement and women's groups in national and local contexts. It concludes with some deliberation on new trends within the realm of women's advocacy on the international stage and reflects on the implications these may have for the global women's movement as it further evolves in response to new international political developments.
