Abstract

Global Warming July in Kentucky, rain falls cold and steady the ground is slobbering drunk and muddy, rivers run down driveways sideways, into culverts and over mountains water rises up in search ofjustice washing away bridges and towns further south in Tennessee people drown in quick waters. Meanwhile in Florida wetlands dry to dust trees burn in wild fires hot dry spit in a frying pan ofno good rains The ocean licks the shore with her salty barren tongue and farmers go to church to pray for rain And in Mexico, entire mountains light up like candles in a pagan ritual rumors spread about arsonists and revolutionaries and drunk women who left cigarettes burning in the woods you can't see from one side of the road to the other and it hasn't rained enough to fill a bucket Glaciers melt and ice the size ofNew Jersey breaks away from the Arctic shelf And finally Clinton says "well, maybe there is such a thing as Global Warming" but saying so doesn't put out the fires. -Melissa Tuckey 35 ...
