Abstract
It follows from the independent-particle picture of the nucleus that the cross section for the reaction (d, /sup 6/Li) depends upon the target mass number A as approx. A/sup -3/./sup 33/, this result indicates the significance of a recent empirical observation. The energy-integrated cross sections for emission of p, d, /sup 3/H, /sup 3/He, and /sup 4/He from Mg, Ni, and Ag nuclei bombarded by a 235-MeV pion beam show some features suggestive of nuclear structure.
