Abstract

Alfred Nobel — the Swedish inventor of dynamite — having considered the inherent danger of his invention as applied to warfare established in 1901 the Nobel prizes, recognizing individuals who contributed to peace either directly or through advances in science and medicine. He saw in science and technology those elements that would enhance the welfare and well-being of mankind, thereby reducing some of the causes of war.
