Abstract

The global stability behavior of bird-shaped girders during construction is investigated. The critical torsional buckling moment is derived by the energy method and Galerkin method. Stability design criteria for bird-shaped girders are proposed for practical use. The proposed criteria have been used to evaluate the buckling capacities of several newly constructed bird-shaped roof structures and full-scale specimens. A good conservative estimation is generally observed.
