Global Spatial data Infrastructure: Current Developments

Abstract

A number of Spatial Data Infrastructure initiatives at local, national and European levels have been progressing since the early 1990s with a parallel global one emerging, beginning at the Bonn 1996 and continuing at the North Carolina 1997 meeting. This paper outlines some of the issues involved. Many of these are similar to those being experienced at the national and regional levels, but the solution to many of them will be different as will their implication. In particular it sets out the conclusions of the Chapel Hill, North Carolina meeting. The implementation of which is ongoing.
