Abstract

A river’s sediment load is influenced by the rates of chemical and physical erosion within the drainage basin. These erosion rates are in turn influenced by the location of a river basin (geography), the geological and tectonic setup conditions, and the magnitude and vector of human influence. Scaling analysis is an important tool for understanding this magnitude and variability of a river’s load.
