Abstract
Global hydroelastic effects due to wetdeck slamming on a high-speed catamaran with forward speed in regular head sea waves are studied experimentally and theoretically. The elastic response is dominated by a two-node bending mode. Predictions of vertical shear forces, bending moments, and slamming force are in fair agreement. Experimental and theoretical error sources are discussed. An important uncertainty is associated with improper measurements of trim angles. The hydrodynamic model of the side hulls needs to be improved by considering hydrodynamic hull interaction.
