Abstract
Abstract This chapter expounds on the global developments in refugee protection. Some of the developments involve human rights in UN multilateral treaties that protect refugees and shape standards of protection for refugees in their home countries. The law of international refugee protection continues to develop within and beyond the 1951 Convention. Moreover, the developments highlighted the elements that decision-makers need to assess when considering the removal of a refugee or asylum seeker to their home country or a third country. The chapter looks into the alleged grey zones in global refugee law. It cites how no other viable alternatives for the displacement challenges following the rule of non-refoulment without first securing protection in accordance with the standards of the 1951 Convention.
