Abstract

Any long-term solution to the current need to improve the American workforce through high school reform must address the fundamental issue behind the press for youth apprenticeships; that is, the cre ation of a formal, national system that joins the worlds of work and schooling in ways that improve learning, motivation, and readiness to do serious work.
