Abstract

Cluster headache is a type of primary headache disorder characterized by severe, recurring pain that occurs in cyclical patterns or clusters. The term ‘cluster headache’ refers to the pattern of headaches that occur in groups or clusters, with periods of frequent attacks followed by periods of remission. A cluster headache attack usually lasts 15 minutes to 3 hours. Some people, however, may experience longer attacks. Cluster headaches are frequently accompanied by autonomic symptoms on the same side as the headache. These symptoms can include redness or watering of the eyes, drooping eyelids (ptosis), nasal congestion or runny nose, sweating, and a flushed face.
