Global acoustic propagation modeling using MaCh1

Abstract

MaCh1 is a broadband, range-dependent acoustic propagation model based on the one-way form of the Maslov integral representation of the wave field. The one-way propagation assumption may—but need not—be combined with a parabolic approximation. MaCh1 model predictions along multi-megameter great circle propagation paths using climatological sound-speed structure and coarse resolution bathymetry will be shown. Model predictions will be compared to preliminary ATOC (acoustic thermometry of ocean climate) program measurements if the latter are available.
