Abstract

Glial cells function as an "assembly". This functional unit "glial assembly" is essential for understanding the role of glial cells in the regulation of brain function, especially during various brain diseases. Glial assembly also plays an essential role in the process of acquiring so-called "ischemic tolerance," in which resistance to subsequent invasive strokes is acquired after experiencing a non-invasive minor stroke. This paper describes the mechanism of neuronal protection by the glial assembly of microglia and astrocytes.
