Abstract

The archaeology of housing allows only partially to investigate the family life during Late Antiquity. Rare is the possibility of a concrete perception of everyday spaces and objects, which we can only imagine on the basis the literary and iconographic sources. The documentation reveals a variety of building possibilities; at the same time, at a high social level, it shows a shared Mediterranean language in preferring some specific architectural typologies, decorations, single objects (furniture, textiles, silver vessels, pottery, etc.). All these data are useful to follow the development of the reference models and of the social practices.
