Abstract

Abstract Glenoid revision can be a diagnostic and technical challenge. It is imperative that the cause of the failure be identified preoperatively. Loosening of the glenoid is the most common reason for revision surgery. The status of the rotator cuff, glenoid version, glenoid bone stock, instability, and infection are factors that should be considered when attempting to identify the etiology of glenoid loosening. When possible, the glenoid should be reimplanted at the time of revision surgery. However, a staged procedure consisting of glenoid removal and bone grafting is usually performed if there is severe glenoid erosion that precludes reimplantation with subsequent glenoid reimplantation if clinically indicated.
