Abstract

The work is devoted to discovering the artistic meaning of a piece of music through its performing interpretation. The intonation-performing analysis of the first part of Mozart's Sonata No. 8 K 310 in the interpretation of Glenn Gould is carried out with the account of the cognitive possibilities of Kurt Sachs' intonation theory. The paper examines the effectiveness of Kurt Sachs’ theoretical construct in analytical practice, its impact on the search and interpretation of artistic meaning. The author demonstrates the influence of personal performance peculiarity of the perception of a piece of music in the context of the established academic tradition on the individual choice of principles of segmentation of musical material and its intonation.
