Abstract

In order to check the feasibility of various glasses as sealing materials, it is necessary to understand the crystallization kinetics, thermal and structural properties of glasses and their interactions with other components of SOFCs. In the present study, different alkaline earth silicate glasses have been studied for chemical interaction with different interconnects (Crofer 22APU, ODS and steel). These heat treated diffusion couple processes were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) in order to understand the mechanism of interface formations and their growth. No chromium rich zone could be seen along the interface after 750 h at 850°C heat treated diffusion couple indicating absence of any adverse reaction at the interface in these samples.
