Abstract

The glass-formation in the pseudo-ternary GeSe 2–Sb 2Se 3–SnSe system by the help of visual, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses was studied. The obtained chalcogenide glasses (ChG) were characterized with respect to their basic thermal (the glass-transition T g, crystallization T cr and melting T m temperatures) and physicochemical (microhardness, HV and density, d) properties. On the basis of the experimental results obtained, some thermo-mechanical and structural parameters of the investigated glassy samples were calculated: modulus of elasticity ( E), compactness ( C), volume of the micro-voids ( V h) and the energy for their formation ( E h). Glass-formation ability of the ChGs was evaluated using the Hruby's criterion ( K G). The composition–properties relationships are discussed in terms of the structural considerations.
