Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of Niaotongkakenaiqi tablets in preventing catheter-related urinary tract infection and bladder irritation symptoms. Methods The patients indwelled catheter after selective surgery at Department of Urology of our hospital from May to November, 2016 were selected. They were randomly divided into a Niaotongkakenaiqi group (experimental group) and a non-Niaotongkakenaiqi group (control group). The experimental group was treated with Niaotongkakenaiqi tablets after indwelling catheter and the control group was not give any preventive drugs. The bladder urine was collected for urinalysis and urine bacteriological examination 3, 5, and 7 days after catheterization. The incidences of urinary tract irritation symptoms were recorded every day. Results No one got urinary tract infection in both groups 3 days after the operation, with no statistical difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). 5 and 7 days after the operation, 2 and 3 cases got urinary tract infection in the experimental group and 9 and 11 in the control group, with statistical differences (P<0.05). the incidence of urinary tract infection was 2 on the fifth day and 3 cases on the seventh day after operation, respectively, in the control group, there were 9 cases and 11 cases, The incidence of urinary tract infection in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group at fifth and seventh days, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). 3 cases occurred bladder irritation in the experimental group and 13 in the control group, with a statistical difference (P < 0.05). Conclusion Niaotongkakenaiqi tablets have high clinical value in reducing the incidence of catheter-related urinary tract infection and can relieve bladder irritation caused by catheter.
