Abstract

The fine structure of the dermal glands in the antennae of the cave beetles, Choleva sp. and Speophyes lucidulus are described. In both, the dermal glands are composed of only secretory cells. The unicellular glands appear to open on the surface of the cuticle by pores located in cuticular pore plates. There are differences in the morphology of the afferent and efferent ducts. The glands open near the sensilla. We believe that the glands either lubricate sensilla articulations, or exude protective substance for the sensilla.
