Abstract

In law a midwife must obtain a valid consent from a woman before any touching can occur (F v West Berkshire HA [1990]). To be valid, that consent must be full, given voluntarily and the woman giving consent must be reasonably informed about the treatment and its risks (Chatterton v Gerson [1981]).
