Abstract
The problem of pollution and littering of land in Russia has been established by the paper. The authors underline a negative trend in the handling with municipal solid waste - 50% of garbage is stored in landfills and cannot be recycled. The purpose of the research was to develop a monitoring system for lands disturbed by household solid waste in Penza region using specialized computer programs, geoinformation technologies, and remote sensing materials. The use of these methods allows to reduce labor, time and financial costs in this sphere.
