Abstract

The selection of the location of wind farms is a complicated problem since a number of criteria have to be taken into account in the selection. Thus, this study aims to identify the most suitable areas for wind farms in the Tarfaya region of Morocco. For this, we focus on the influence of six criteria, which are: wind speed, slope, land use, distance from power lines, distance from roads and distance from people. In order to calculate the weight to be assigned to each criterion, we use multi-criteria decision analysis ((MCDA) methods such as the analytical hierarchy process (AHP), the Fuzzy-AHP algorithm from Buckley and the geometric mean Fuzzy-AHP method, combined to a geographic information system (GIS). The results obtained by the three methods are compared to identify the best and worst places for the location of wind farms in Tarfaya, Morocco.
