Abstract
Giant platinum clusters were prepared by a new method, i.e. by combination of the preparation of naked platinum clusters by photoirradiation of a hexachloroplatinic(IV) acid solution and the stabilization of the naked clusters by addition of organic ligands. Platinum clusters stabilized by 1,10-phenanthroline are more active as catalyst for both visible light-induced hydrogen generation from water and hydrogenation of olefins than those stabilized by triphenylphosphine. The difference of activity is discussed by the term of coordination probability.
