Abstract

Fatty masses of the heart are relatively uncommon. The case presented is an extremely rare form of benign invasive lipomatosis arising from the left ventricle mimicking malignancy. The patient was a 26-year-old female who complained of atypical chest pain for the last 6 months. Chest X-ray showed an increased cardiothoracic ratio. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed a large homogenous echogenic mass in the pericardial space near the left lateral surface of the heart. Computerized tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging of the chest showed a large fat-dense and highly vascular mass having a well-defined lateral border arising from the left ventricle. The patient underwent debulking of the tumor in view of the invasiveness, different consistency, and high vascularity which mimicked malignancy. Pathological study showed it to be benign invasive lipomatosis.
