Abstract

It is now well known that charged defects in a conjugated polymer chain show infra-red active vibrations (IRAV) with huge oscillator-strength (1,2). The strong optical absorption of these modes are the result of very efficient coupling between the backbone modes of the polymer and the π-electrons, giving rise to localized charge oscillations in response to the lattice vibrations (3).
