Abstract

High-performance high-temperature shape memory alloys (HTSMAs) are greatly needed for applications as intelligent components in aerospace, automotive, manufacturing and energy exploration industries. Here we developed a high-performance Ni-Fe-Mn-Sn HTSMA microwire, which exhibits giant high-temperature superelasticity with a maximum recoverable strain as high as ∼20% in the broad temperature range from 503 K up to 793 K. Incorporating the advantages of low cost of constituent elements and easy fabrication, this microwire shows great potential for applications in miniature high-temperature intelligent devices. This work is instructive for the development of small-scale high-performance HTSMAs.
