S025 GIANT FIELDS IN THE SIRT BASIN LIBYA Abstract The Sirt Basin with known recoverable reserves of 42-45 billion barrels of oil and 33 trillion cubic feet of gas ranks 15th among the world’s petroleum provinces. It covers an area of about 500 000 sq km in the north-central part of Libya and is characterized by regionally extensive NW-SE trending horsts and grabens (platforms and troughs).
