Abstract

Severe giant-cell arteritis in a Spanish terrapin ( Clemmys leprosa) led to the death of the animal when haemopericardium supervened. Since only 2 previous cases, both in chelonians with an abnormal presentation of giant cells have been reported, it is suggested that the macrophage system of the chelonians may repay particular attention.
