Abstract

The article discusses research about ancient humans' toilet hygiene customs appearing in the article "Toilet Hygiene in the Classical Era," published in a 2012 issue of periodical "BMJ" (British Medical Journal) by French forensic medical researcher and anthropologist Philippe Charlier and colleagues. Topics include an ancient Greek artifact depicting toilet customs and materials used in such customs including ceramic fragments called "pessoi." Additional information is presented on medical risks associated with hard substances used in toilet customs.
