Abstract
In liturgy, we discover who God is or can be, what kind of God is sayable and prayable. The poetic language of prayer is the place for birthing, not only new theologies or God-talk, but dynamic encounters with God. This article reflects on the nature of the psalms and other prayers as analogous to the giving of words in the writing of poetry. It concludes with reworkings of the Lord’s Prayer from the author’s own prayer life.
