Abstract

The PET Social Management Group of the Federal Fluminense University in Volta Redonda are developed, pointing out the main difficulties and the contributions and evidencing the applicability of social management. We chose a descriptive-qualitative research approach, for which interviews were conducted with nine students of the PET Social Management Group. The results allowed to conclude that the experiences of the extension actions allowed the petianos to absorb the concept of social management, incorporating the dominant themes about the theoretical contribution that fits with the conception of social management defended by Tenorio (2006, 2008a, 2008b, 2010, 2011 ), guided by the communicative rationality of Habermas (1987a, 1987b, 1989). Thus, the study contributes to the understanding of the limitations and possibilities in the development of the mentioned extension activities and the social management from the perspective of a participatory, dialogical process, in which the decision making is exercised collectively, from the consensus, respecting pluralism and strengthening the initiative and protagonism of the subjects toward emancipation and social well-being.
