Abstract

Acetabular fractures are rare injuries which involve a heavy burden in terms of complications and long-term disability. The management of these fractures is challenging and it should be performed in Hospitals specialised in pelvic trauma. Initial management should follow Damage Control Orthopaedics principles and the definitive treatment should be performed with the patient under stable clinical conditions. In young patients, reduction and internal fixation is a safe treatment with satisfactory functional results and good hip survival. In elderly patients, acute total hip arthroplasty could be the right acute fracture management and is related with satisfactory clinical results.
