Abstract

Management of hyperglycaemia in patients during parenteral nutrition (PN) remains difficult in clinical practice. Yet, hyperglycaemia cannot be left untreated regarding its potential fatal adverse outcomes. At the opposite, the control of glycaemia can also have adverse effect as hypoglycaemia with severe consequences for the patient. The management of PN should be performed on a multidisciplinary basis and the experience of the medical staff is an essential element in order to obtain the targeted glucose control.
