Abstract

Objective: The most recent report on the Assisted Reproductive Technology success rates published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for the year 1999, demonstrates a clinical pregnancy rate of 37.3%, 31.6% and 24.4% for infertile women <35, 35–37, and 38–40 years of age. While the overall pregnancy rates have improved with each report, the question still remains as to what the maximum pregnancy rates one might be able to expect from IVF technology. In addition, the question also remains as to what degree these rates are limited by the underlying cause of infertility. To assess the efficacy of IVF treatment, we have chosen infertile couples who have used gestational surrogates to overcome the cause of their infertility, namely their anatomic uterine defect.
