Abstract
Resume During the solid state recrystallization of iron rods, the formation of single crystals is accompanied by twinning, more frequently in zone-refined iron, rather than in iron of commercial purity (approximately 50% compared to 13% of the cases, respectively). The experimental results indicate that the length of the crystals grown from the zone-refined iron is related to the diameter and the orientation of the growth axis, so that in the neighborhood of [001] the crystals grow to an extensive size of 5 to 7 cm long. The growth axis of the crystal following the parent one is often closer to [001] (75% of the cases), especially when nucleation is produced by the preponderant twinning system: ([111] {112}). The hypothesis of a maximum recrystallization rate in the vicinity of [001] is considered.
