Abstract

Summary The effect of B chromosomes upon germination time was investigated in a single cultivar of leek seeds ( Allium porrum L., cultivar Musselburgh). Seeds with Bs germinated approximately 1 day earlier than seeds without Bs but differences in percentage cumulative germination were significant on one day only. The results provide support for a marginal acceleration of germination by B chromosomes in this species.
